Mother’s Day: Tips passed on from moms  👩‍🍳

In honour of Mother’s Day coming up this Sunday, we asked our community of Epicure Ambassadors to share the tips or cooking hacks they learned from their moms. These are little tidbits or pieces of wisdom that you learn by sharing space in the kitchen with your mom – or the mom in your life – and that you remember from time to time as you bring dinner to the table for yourself, your friends, and family.

I was raised by my Grandma, and she taught me frugal ways to make meals from scratch. That's how come Epicure fit so well into my life, making homemade even easier. - Tina Christensen

Always make more! You never know who is going to show up for dinner at the last minute! A girlfriend, a boyfriend... And if there is too much, I freeze! It will make a great lunch! - Christine Caron

Using every last piece of meat and veggies. Cut off the bad part parts, use the rest in soup or casserole, or freeze. - Amy Casuga

I was taught to cook, plain and simple! There is always something good to eat every day of the week. - Kathie Pelletier

A chunk of extra sharp cheddar cheese always gets served on the side with apple pie! - Jenny Ostrowski

Cook a meal with all that is left in the fridge! – Jennifer Viel

My mother passed kitchen/cooking hack/tip to me was make sure all surfaces are clean and to taste the food to make sure that the seasonings are right. - Diana McAlister

I remember going to Cooking Classes with my mom on how to use this brand-new appliance called a Microwave my dad brought home. She didn't speak English very well, so I was her ears and voice at these lessons. The room was filled with elegantly dressed, well-off ladies asking about souffles and other fancy dishes. My mom's biggest question was how to cook hotdogs for my 10 friends for my upcoming 10th birthday. She was always thinking about everyone else. I guess you can say she was a pioneer in Microwave Cooking too. I know she's nodding and smiling seeing the amazing dishes we make in our Steamers in the Microwave now. - Joanne Figueiredo

As you share good food with your family this Mother’s Day weekend, it’s a great time to reflect on all the amazing lessons the women in our life teach us.

Happy Mother’s Day!
